DRC : Towards the regionalization of the war
As war rages in eastern DRC following the capture of Goma by the M23, the risk of regionalizing the conflict is increasing.
Burundi, which has decided to support the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC), declared that the fall of Bukavu, the second-largest city in Kivu, to the M23 would pose a direct threat to Burundi’s security.
Meanwhile, Ugandan military chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba stated that “his people” were being killed in Bunia, Ituri, and threatened to take control of the city. Uganda already has 1,000 soldiers in the DRC, deployed to help combat the Islamist rebel group ADF.
